Dana Point's Step Up For Kids Walkathon Aims to Surpass Previous Donations for Local Families

On November 5th, 2023, Dana Point hosted its third annual Step Up For Kids Walkathon event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Dana Point Harbor. The participants and instructors in the walkathon all met at the Dana Point Harbor Yacht Club where a group picture was taken and a brief introduction was given as participants and instructors got ready for their 1-2 mile scenic walking route.

There were two major walk groups during the event, one at approximately 9:15 in the morning where participants and instructors set out on a relatively easy, flat, and scenic two-mile walking route. The other group set out on a one-mile walk beginning just fifteen minutes after the 9:15 a.m. walk at 9:30 in the morning. During the walk, participants and instructors gazed upon Dana Point Harbor’s magnificent cliffs, classic cars provided by the generosity of the “Just Having Fun” car organization, and of course the numerous and abundant amount of boats docked in the harbor. Restrooms and water stations were provided during the walk for the comfort and safety of participants and instructors in the walkathon if they chose to use them.

The admission fee ticket price was $30 and a walkathon tee shirt for the event was given to all those who chose to enter the event. Similar to the year prior, all money gathered by the walkathon and the Assistance League Of Capistrano Valley (ALCV) was donated to the Capistrano Unified School District where individuals and families in need received funding for scholarships, clothing, and anything else that those families and individuals, in particular, would need. The prior year, over $234,500 was donated to the Capistrano Unified School District and Camp Pendleton children and families.

This year, donations are no longer being accepted, but the donations are still being totaled on the Assistance League Of Capistrano Valley (ALCV) website as the Assistance League Of Capistrano Valley hopes to rack in even more money than the year prior to donate Capistrano Unified School District and Camp Pendleton children and families in need.
