On Friday Oct. 27, the 2023 World Series commenced with the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Games one and two were played in Arlington, Texas at Globe Life Field. In a close first game of the seven game series, the Rangers secured a slim win of 6-5 over the Diamondbacks. In game two the Diamondbacks gained a huge win of 9-1 to tie the series 1-1 before heading back to their home field.
Games three and four took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. Despite having home field advantage the Diamondbacks were unable to use that to their advantage as the Rangers secured two wins: game three 3-1, game four 11-7. Texas led the series 3-1 as they headed back home for game five.
Game 5 stayed scoreless through the first six innings with the Diamondbacks pitcher, Zac Gallen, not allowing a single hit. Rangers shortstop, Corey Seager, broke up the no hitter during the seventh inning.This gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at the bottom of the seventh, and after an explosive ninth inning lead the Diamondbacks trailed by 5 runs.
The Rangers peaked at the right time this season and secured their first World Series title in the franchise's sixty-three year history. Texas also won eleven straight games away during the postseason, making history as the longest away winning streak in MLB postseason.
After many foul plans— both defensive and offensive— and masses of fan criticism, coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler have both officially been fired from the Las Vegas Raiders. Throughout NFL history, the Raiders have never performed so poorly in a single decade. Along with their countless losses, the Raiders have never won past a shootout game and generally fail to tip the balance thoroughly in their favor. However, Antonio Pierce and Champ Kelly have taken the Raiders throne— replacing McDaniels and Ziegler— leading the team into a victorious blowout 30-6 against the New York Giants.
As Raider Nation rejoices in their first blowout in years, so does the team in the locker room after the Giants game, puffing cigars in celebration of McDaniels’ release, as seen on defensive end Maxx Crosby’s instagram. Hopefully, Raiders fans will finally be able to bolster their fine improvements for the remainder of the season.
