Calling for Renovations: Dana Hills Gymnasium in Need of Upgrades to Support Athletes and Represent the School

As fall season sports come to an end, many athletes whose sport practiced in the gymnasium had many complaints and are begging for a renovation. Some issues included random oil like spots on the floor that make the floor slippery and dangerous, no air-conditioning that leaves athletes extremely hot in the summer and fall months, and freezing in winter months, and a sound system that can no longer keep up with events such as pep rallies. These are only some of the major issues with the facility but others include the space just not being up to date compared to other schools in the district. For example most of the other schools in the district have updated decor in their gym including a fresh coat of paint, LED scoreboards, and new bleachers, and a second gym whereas we have just one gym and it is out of date. The gym itself is in need of an upgrade not only for these reasons but because when people come to our school for sporting events or back to school night, the way our school gym looks can say a lot about our sports team and how we are as a school. Also having a second gym would speed up sporting events and having two practices at the same time would let athletes get home earlier instead of having practice until 10 o'clock at night. When you walk into a school's gym for any reason and see LED scoreboards, fresh paint, and a sound system that doesn't cut out every five minutes, you already assume that the school is well respected and has good programs. However with our gym, currently it does not represent our school as it should. Personally, I think that because our school is one of the older schools in the district, the newer schools got the newest improvements and we were left with what we were given to begin with. Upgrades like adding heated floors, a working air conditioning system and putting in a new sound system would benefit our sports and events as well as represent our school in the way it deserves.
