Andres O’connor

Introducing Andres O’connor. A creative fellow with a passion for fashion. With roots in Dana Point and having a full education from St. Edwards the Confessor to Dana Hills High School he has had multiple opportunities to flourish in design and develop his own sense of style. With a love for fashion dating back to years ago, he started designing clothes of his own about one year ago. Andres takes style inspiration from celebrities such as Chloe Savaingey and Skinny Young Thug (The Hellp). When it comes to designer inspiration, Heddy Slamon, Yogi Yamamoto and June Takashai are a few of Andres’s icons. When asked what his favorite brands are, Andres pleaded that he likes to source most of his clothes through second hand and vintage shopping where he scores hidden gems. When taking these inspirations and designers and turning these ideas into hand crafted clothing, his biggest supporter is his very own cousin, Patrick O'connor. When it came to the originality of his designs, Andres’s philosophy was as follows, “ I definitely take ideas from my inspirations, even if I’m not thinking of it, it is impossible to create something original”. As we got a glimpse into his creative design process we got a glimpse into his incredibly creative mind. His designing process begins with a reference point. He ponders, can he see himself wearing this specific clothing item, will it be a special occasion article or a day to day article of clothing. When creating clothes, fabric choice is a crucial part of the process. Andres takes craft with his fabric decisions and enjoys sourcing them from fabric mills in Japan. He enjoys working with denim fabric the best because he finds denim to be found the most in his day to day life. To conclude the interview, Andres was hit with a hard question. He was asked, “What is your holy grail in your closet?” Andres stated without hesitation his velvet underground shirt. As we learn more and more about Andres’s mystery and fashion journey we hope to take away more knowledge about style and fashion than we did before we read this article.
