Avatar 2's "The Way of Water" Makes a Splash

New movies in Seattle-area theaters this week: 'Avatar: The Way of Water' | The Seattle Times

Avatar 2 “The Way of Water” is making a big splash at the box office. Released on Dec. 16, 2022, so far it is estimated they have made 2.1 billion dollars by Jan. 23, 2023. Avatar 2 is the third highest grossing movie, passing up “Star Wars The Force Awakens.” It's already been nominated for 4 Academy Awards including best picture. Traditionally, sequels don’t meet the expectation of the first movie. This is especially difficult when trying to recreate a blockbuster hit. Director James Cameron seems to have the magic touch. He has given viewers who fell in love with the first Avatar another beautiful experience. The big question is, will Avatar 2 beat the first movie’s 2.9 billion record? In a time when people don’t go to the movies much because it’s easy to stream things at home, I believe Avatar 2 is doing so well because of its technological experience that you want to hear and see in the theater. As in the first Avatar there is beautiful cinematography based on nature. I enjoyed the colorful fantasy world and the continued storyline of the characters from the first movie. Sharing the characters' story continuing after the first movie and how they expanded their life and how they get around. Avatar 2 explorers the beauty of Pandora’s ocean. You will have to decide if the 3 hours and 12 minute experience is worth it. The special effects and action scenes lead this to be a movie worth your time. Many reviewers reported that it was a comforting movie to watch. However, others commented that the mediocre storyline left the movie a little dry. On the whole, most reviews were positive and it even scored a 77% on “Rotten Tomatoes”. “Rotten Tomatoes” top critic Dwight Brown says “It’s more than you can possibly imagine. A fantasy world so vivid and real it commands your full attention for 3h 12m. And when it’s done, you’ll still want to linger in this heightened state of make believe.” My suggestion is to go grab a bucket of popcorn, sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie.
