Ohana Festival - A Review

The Ohana Festival occurred from September 30th- October 2nd. The Ohana Festival was started by Eddie Vedder, one of the world's most famous rock musicians, and is best known for being the lead singer in Pearl Jam. Stevie Nicks, Eddie Vedder, Jack White, and Pink were the main performers. The two stages were surrounded by beautiful palm trees that were lit up once the sun went down with blue and red LED lights. The orange sunset created a perfect background for photos. Food trucks offering a wide variety of cuisines were placed near the sand, outlining the venue. Bleachers were in the back two corners, offering both an ocean view and a view of the stage. Unfortunately the lines for food were long and the food was overpriced, however many people were lined up and ready to pay. The back fences were left open for surfers to be able to listen and enjoy the music. I attended the festivals last night to watch Pink perform. Pink played some of her greatest hits such as ‘raise your glass’ but also played songs from Janis Joplin and Gwen Stefani, her two favorite female artists. Me and Bobby McGee, a number one hit by Janis Joplin, was played and adored by the crowd. The whole festival radiated with good spirits and I noticed Pink was putting out the theme of acceptance, encouraging others to be themselves, and “celebrating those who aren't part of the popular crowd”. She played the piano for her second time on set, which she was nervous to play. She admitted to the audience that she made 4 mistakes throughout the song and plans to make only 3 next time. The crowd cheered loudly when Pink's daughter, Willow, came on stage to perform. It was a special mother and daughter moment. It's not often when you get to see a mother and daughter perform together and the crowd really appreciated it. It was inspiring to see an 11 year old sing with confidence in front of such a large crowd. Fortunately shuttles were available to all to attend the show. It made easier access for a crowded event like this. Lucky people, like myself, who live close by would enjoy the show without the worry of shuttles or parking. The Ohana Festivals 7th year was a success and the feedback was very positive. I can imagine that next year's Ohana Festival will sell out once again.
