Just located upstairs in the hall among the English classrooms is one of Dana Hills’ latest incorporations. Two of six College and Career Centers–with one at DHHS and the other at Aliso Niguel High–have already had their opening ceremonies. As of the 2022 to 2023 school year, now, many students on campus can say they are familiar with the centers.
Whether it was to attend a college visit or partake in a college essay presentation, the new college counseling room has created momentous opportunities for students to become better informed about their futures. It was very recently that the University of Santa Barbara held a consultation during Flex Time for students. The room had been packed, and while scholars found themselves having to stand when all seats were taken, the pleasant center itself did not fail to accommodate everyone.
Its interior is constructively set up so there are several round blue tables with numerous chairs. The decor and design of the room are almost futuristic, full of whites and sky blues, the walls hold LED signs and inspirational quotes that are intended to kindle dreams.
A desk for a teacher or school-related individual sits in the corner, and nearby is a wide-reaching whiteboard and screen for a short-throw projector. In serving the campus’s student body, the center boasts the full spectrum of technology; both desktops and laptops.
The Capistrano Unified School District is in the course of revamping College and Career Centers for a new generation of students. It is the perfect platform for formal attendees, including superintendents, trustees, principals, executive directors, and CTE ambassadors.
Most centers were used in 2015, however, they were closed due to budget cuts.
Being back and more useful than ever, college knowledge and resources are easily accessible. So what are some things that can be expected from the College and Career Center? Many of the representatives that speak are actual individuals who review your student applications, so this is a great way to make a personal introduction. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend, because asking questions and getting background will better connect them to those college opportunities, and to utilize the tools provided, along with support.
Going to a meeting can help a student determine if he or she actually wants to visit a campus in person, and therefore learn about special programs and scholarships. It is a great way for students to learn about schools they may not have previously considered.
The communal space of the new college counseling room allows scholars to have the services they need right at their fingertips. They can receive guidance through the college application process or a job search.Workshops, seminars, and one-on-one appointments will help students move forward into a successful life. “Imagine an entire generation affected by a health crisis who now need our support to move forward and be successful in life,” said Pati Romo, executive director of CCA. “We want to provide everything they need to prepare for college, careers, and success in life throughout their years in K-12 so that they feel confident in their plan on day one after graduation.”
